G-1 First Impressions

Several of the G-1 girls are here for the first time. What are their impressions of camp? Let’s see:

Rachel Jackson—It was very hot. I was very nervous. I was very tired and hot. I had a very long car ride—8 hours, can you believe that? Later that day we arrived at Camp McKenzie. When we arrived I could not believe how many cars and kids there were. The day we arrived I was so hot and all I wanted to do was go swim. That’s what I did.

Hillary Jones—I have never been to camp before. I thought it would be fun to meet new kids and do games. I really think this camp is nice and clean. Also the dorms are big and nice. I’m glad I came to camp. Hope you can come to.

Jessica Collins—When I was driving here I started to get nervous without even knowing what I was nervous about. Then when I got here everyone was really nice to me. The first counselor that I met was Miss Amy. She’s really nice and fun, and then I met Miss Laura who was really nice and fun too. She also sleeps right below me. Then I met a boy that I thought was cute, but I won’t say his name because he will see the paper.

Brenna Cook—I thought I would know my counselor but I don’t. I love to go swimming. I go swimming almost all the time at home. At first I thought we would go swimming in the river. I also thought that we would not go hiking. But now I know WE ARE GOING HIKING!!!!!!! I really want to go to do archery. It is so cool.

Breanna Brown—The first day at camp I was nervous and hot. The first night was a no-sleeper because everyone was too excited to sleep. But we finally got to sleep. The second day is a lot of fun. The first thing we did the second day was Christian Living Class and I liked it.

Aubre Givens—Swimming was my favorite sport. I think the ropes course came in second. I really liked my counselors, Miss Amy and Miss Laura. I made a lot of friends. Later that night I met Breezy, Melissa and Dawn. We all went swimming and had a blast. When we came back and got in the dining room we had hamburgers. We were a little shy to be around all the people but we got used to it. Later that night I met Rachel Loucks. She is really nice—she is across from me. I will be really hot, so I will be swimming most of the time.

Melissa Damman—I like swimming because at free time you can go swimming and I like swimming. I think swimming is cool. It was a hot day. I thought it was going to be fun and it was fun. I was nervous when I saw all the kids. First time I met my new friend at the swimming pool. It was yesterday when I met her. She asked if I wanted to go swimming. We went swimming. The water was cold first then it got hot. It was so fun! My brother was in the swimming pool. I played a game in the pool with my brother, and then I met all the girls. It was fun.

Sharon Hoffmeyer –Camp was fun for everyone. Everything was great and we appreciate all that the staff has done.

“A Clown’s Prayer”

Submitted by Alyssa Archer

“Dear Lord, as I stumble through this life help me create more laughter than tears, disperse more happiness than gloom, and spread more cheer than despair. Never let me become so blasé that I fail to see the wonder in the eyes of a child, or the twinkle in the eyes of the aged.

Never let me forget my work is to cheer people, make them happy, make them laugh, make them forget at least for a moment the unpleasantness in their life. Never let me acquire success to the point that I discontinue calling on my Creator in the hour of need, acknowledging and thanking Him in the hour of plenty. And in my final moments may I hear you whisper, “When you made my people smile, you made me smile.”

COUNSELOR’S CORNER

We can’t help it—our girls are just too cute! The G-1 girls have been awesome. The enthusiasm of our dorm inspires us to be better counselors and maintain high energy. They are quick to encourage one another and slow to criticize.

Being the youngest dorm at camp can be a real challenge, but they have risen to the occasion with smiles. Their thirst for the truth and their willingness to interact with the speakers reminds us why we are here! We will treasure the memories and friendships forever.
