``the Prayer of Jebez"
The Prayer of Jebez has recently received much notoriety due to a book written by Dr. Bruce Wilkinson. The prayer of Jebez is found in I Chronicles 4:9 -10:
9Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, "Because I bore him in pain." 10And
Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, "Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your
hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!" So God granted him what he requested.
In this Bible Study we will look at the four sections of Jebez's prayer: 1. that You would bless me indeed, 2. and enlarge my territory,
3 that Your hand would be with me, and 4. that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!"
Some questions for tonight's Bible Study:
1. Should we be asking for blessings?
2. What does it mean ``enlarge my territory"?
3. Should we ask for God to ``enlarge our territory"?
4. What is Jabez mean by asking for God's hand to be with him?
5. Why was Jabez considered more honorable than his brothers.. and why is he mentioned in such a way in the genealogy?
6. How does this prayer compare to the ``Lord's Prayer"?
7. How can we incorporate these principles found in the prayer of Jabez into our personal prayers?
